Male medical circumcision is a surgical or non-surgical removal of the foreskin, the retractable fold of tissue that covers the head of the penis. The inner aspect of the foreskin is highly susceptible to HIV infections. Circumcision reduces the risk of female to male transmission of sexually transmitted infections and HIV by approximately 60%.
This project aims to achieve 80 percent coverage among men in the 14 sub Saharan countries with high HIV prevalence and low levels of adult male circumcision. In order to avert 3.4 million new HIV infections and save us dollar 16, 6 billion in future health care costs. To reduce the incidents of HI infection other STIs, penile, and cervical cancer through provisions of safe and voluntary male circumcision services .To provide a framework of the provision of safe accessible voluntary and sustainable male circumcision services in a way that safeguards the human rights of individuals and communities.
The project has reached 5000 direct beneficiaries and 15000 indirect beneficiaries. The government has allocated $3000 to support this project. In kind, contributions amounted to $1000. In total the budget for this project is $4000.
Voluntary male medical circumcision clients were opting not to be circumcised because they are required to first undertake a test for HIV.
