Bulawayo City Council is 122 years old, matters of sexual harassment a form of Gender Based Violence in the workplace have always been a taboo subject. The social and long term effects of the gender based violence of sexual harassment in the workplace has far reaching consequences. Sexual harassment to young people reduces their productivity in employment. The victim suffers societal discrimination and rejection, even from family members and friends.

Most employees go into a shell when sexual harassment in the workplace is being discussed. My motivation is that when students on attachment come into the organization and realize that sexual harassment in the workplace is discussed openly, the dangers of them being harassed are reduced.

The project main objectives of the project were to bring an awareness to the students on work related learning on matters of Gender Based Violence with particular reference to Sexual Harassment in the workplace. Sexual harassment when presented during induction makes the attachés’ realize that the organization has an open policy on matters relating to sexual harassment in the workplace.

It was also designed to identify what constitutes sexual harassment and dispel the myths surrounding it. Usually when a woman is sexually harassed there is a notion that she has brought it upon herself. In the identification process the students were made to say what they considered to be sexual harassment and they identified, myths that the women are the only ones being abused and that men are the abusers yet both sexes can be subject to the abuse.

There were 288 women empowered with 96 having benefited directly and 192 indirectly because mothers and daughters usually share experiences at the same time maybe each woman can have two close friends to share the information with on what would have transpired in their lives. Sexual Harassment which is a gender based violence can only be eradicated by the women and girls discussing about it, by sensitizing all those that may be caught unawares.
