Maseru, 10 June: The third annual SADC Gender Protocol@Work Summit started yesterday at the Maseru Sun Hotel, with a resounding call and response from speakers and participants chanting this year’s theme, “Gender equality now and post 2015! Yes we must!”

Port-Louis, 25 juin: Ayant comme plateforme régionale de lancement le Sommet national de Gender Links de 2014, le programme de Zezi Vre Zom (ZVZ), initié par l’Institut Cardinal Jean Margéot Á  Maurice (ICJM), fait son chemin dans beaucoup de pays. Piloté par Jean-Max Appanah, ce programme écrit par le père Jean Claude Veder, a remporté le premier prix dans la catégorie Organisation confessionnelle l’an dernier lors de ce Sommet. Ce qui lui a conféré une plus grande visibilité, lui permettant de mieux s’exporter.

Gender, elections and 50/50

Whenever there is an election in the country, be it general or local government elections, women make up the majority of the voters, yet they are hardly present in decision making structures. Women bear the brunt of social ills and cast their votes in the hope to improve their lives and those of their families. Women suffer more from water shortages and poor infrastructure, and these problems could be addressed effectively if fellow women held the top positions.
