The Harare Polytechnic based in Harare, Zimbabwe has been working with the GMDC since 2009. The Harare Polytechnic became part of the institutions that were targeted for the Gender in Media Education (GIME) research.
Lovelife, the largest national HIV prevention initiative for young people in South Africa will soon sign two MOUs with the GMDC. The first MOU will be for the gender and media literacy course that is being extended to loveLife staff.
LoveLife is South Africa’s largest national HIV prevention initiative for young people. LoveLife combines a sustained high-powered campaign with nationwide community-level outreach and support programmes to promote healthy, HIV-free living among South African teens. The organisation will soon sign an MOU with the GMDC.
The African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is an NGO based in Kenya. Set up in 1988, it seeks to share experiences, information and strategies among African women’s non-governmental organisations (NGOs) through advocacy, training and communications so as to advance African women’s development, equality and other human rights.
The Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) is a leading training institution for professional journalism. MIJ is the only training institution in the region with its own radio station and a news paper. With over 10 years of experience MIJ is committed to maintaining excellence in developing media independence and professionalism.
This month the GMDC will sign an MOU with the African Fathers Initiative. African Fathers Initiative is an Africa-wide organisation aiming at improving the well-being of children and families by promoting involved, responsible and committed fathers. We aim to build an African consensus that active involved fathers can improve men, women and children’s lives. From our base in Harare, Zimbabwe we involve all men and women who want to know more about the value of fathering and fatherhood initiatives throughout Africa.
This month the GMDC will sign an MOU with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). The IFJ is the world’s largest organisation of journalists. First established in 1926, it was relaunched in 1946 and again, in its present form, in 1952. Today the Federation represents around 600 000 members in more than 100 countries.
The Malawi Institute of Journalism will soon join the GMDC partner hall of fame. They will be signing the MOU in Blantyre, Malawi on 3 June 2011. Congratulations to MIJ for diligently working on the MOU.
The University of Limpopo recently signed an MOU with the GMDC. We would like to welcome the university into the GMDC family. They have already started enjoying the fruits of the MOU: one of their students (above) is currently with GL on a six-month internship.
This month we welcome the University of Antananarivo to the GMDC family. Pr Abel Andriantsimahavandy signed an MOU on 10 December on behalf of the university. The partnership is based on the mutual interests of the two institutions, including a commitment to gender equity in and through the media, exchange and utilisation of knowledge products, mainstreaming of gender in media education and enhancing access to information through Open Source Education and online learning.
The University of Limpopo signs MOU with Gender Links
In a recent turn of events, the University of Limpopo have become an official member of Gender Links. This was brought about after the recent Advisory Group Meeting held in Johannesburg on October 12, 2010. We welcome their partnership, and look forward to exchanging publications, interns on attachments and working to incorporate gender into their curriculum.The GMDC welcomes its newest member, the International Womens Media Foundation (IWMF). Founded in 1990, IWMF is a vibrant global network dedicated to strengthening the role of women in the news media worldwide as a means to further freedom of the press. The IWMF network enables women in the news media to join together in new ways to share ideas, resources, strategies and career advice. IWMF also offers innovative training to women in the news media, which provides them with the skills they need to succeed in their career and become leaders in their newsrooms.
