La Women In Networking, association qui promeut la contribution des femmes actives, a officiellement lance sa 6eme Ă©dition de formation. L’Ă©quipe qui a lance ce projet Ă©tait compose de Bruneau Woomed et Jane Valls, tous deux ‘National Coordinator’, Georgina Ragaven la ‘CHAMPION’ de ce projet et le professeur Antony Edison. L’objectif de ce programme et de fournir aux femmes les compĂ©tences nĂ©cessaires pour leur permettre de devenir des membres plus actifs de notre sociĂ©tĂ© a tous les niveaux et de gagner la confiance nĂ©cessaire pour devenir un chef de file dans la communautĂ©.
The month of February provided the Mauritius Satellite Office with some particularly interesting learning opportunities. In the context of the upcoming Second Gender Justice and Local Government Summit Awards, video expert Kendy Mangra came to the office over two days to deliver intensive video training, as well as give tips for effective photography.
Loga travelled to Madagascar recently, weighed down with various reports that were printed in Mauritius at reduced cost. She attended several key events in Madagascar, including the launch of the Gender In Media Education and Gender and Media Progress Studies and the launch of Gender Policies for Radio National Malagasy (RNM) and Television National Malagasy (TNM).
Loga and Mary attended the debate: “Labour Laws: are women more vulnerable?” organised by Women in Networking on 25 January. All agreed that recent amendments impinged on the labour rights of employees. Unfortunately the debate did not stress the aspect of women’s vulnerability in the labour market.
The Mauritius Research Council has completed data collection for the Prevalence, Attitudes and Costing Survey and is now moving into the data analysis phase. Research on the other components has also commenced. We plan to complete all aspects and launch the Mauritius report by June 2011.
November has been rich as far as media coverage for the Mauritius Satellite Office. Gender Links received five pages of media coverage about the GMPS report in Impact magazine.
Loga Virahsawmy and Kudzai Macombe facilitated a three-day IPS Workshop on “Women in Politics and the Media – Train the Trainer Programme” from 10 to 12 November.
On 18 November, a Cyber Dialogue on gender-based violence (GBV) took place. Loga chaired the French forum and Davinah from the Mauritius Satellite Office and Virginie from Media Watch Organisation (MWO) as well as eight other participants from DRC, participated.
Mary attended the launch of the Children Annual Report by the ombudsperson for children. This is the seventh report detailing actions undertaken and activities carried out over the year.
