The LUX Project – Empowerment Training for Women in Cite Mangalkhan, Mauritius

This project will holistically help women to come out of their precarious situation through an Empowerment programme. This will help them be less vulnerable to depression, discouragement, violence, unemployment and other health and social ills.

The project has been launched on the 14th of March in line with the International Day of Women 2017. 24 beneficiaries of Cite Mangalkhan has been selected to be part of the training. Two group sessions with the beneficiaries has been organised with them and training will start on the 24th of March 2017.

This project will improve the capacities of the beneficiaries through:

  1. A functional literacy evaluation test for all beneficiaries.
  2. Training for beneficiaries on self-esteem, entrepreneurship and women’s SRHR and hygiene
  3. Training for beneficiaries on literacy,
  4. Production of an easy to understand educational booklet.
  5. Empowering and training beneficiaries’ partners.
  6. A robust continuous mentoring system.
  7. Link beneficiaries with local economic opportunities in councils.
  8. Linking new beneficiaries with existing beneficiaries to work in the cooperative.
  9. A strong monitoring and evaluation system
