Description:
The scene or story is about a South African Rapper who is charged with murder. The man is alleged on killing his wife in cold blood who was found in their bedroom. Here in the scene, he is in court and nevertheless his case got postponed.

Context
The rapper is facing charges of murder and is awaiting judge’s ruling on whether he is guilty or innocent.

Why it has been given this GEM classification:
The scene is Gender Aware, making people aware that violence against women exist and the perpetrators are likely to be intimate partners thus many of them keep quiet to avoid shame or humiliation in the family or in society.

This kind of violence its is classified as femicide, as the act involves a woman losing her life in the hands of her partner. This shows that women are not safe in the hands of those who they expect protection from but end up losing their lives and in most cases the blame is put on women saying that they did something to provoke the men in doing it.

Title:
“SA rapper Pitch Black Afro’s murder case postponed” the tittle reveals what the story is about a man who murdered his wife. While in court, the man showed no remorse or grieve grief. He was smiling and waving at in the court people as if he is in a concert.

Focus: Yes there is a focus on GBV in the this scene. The scene looks at what is currently happening worldwide and, in our nation, where women are constantly being brutally killed by their partners. According to South African Medical Research Council’s the Gender and Health Research Unit found that in such cases where a perpetrator had been identified, 57.1% of the murders were done by an intimate partner. This shows an alarming rise of femicide and the perpetrators in most instances get away with it.

People in the news item:
The scene only displays the suspect and people in the courtroom.

Language
The language use by the anchor is one which, is understandable by the viewers as the it is a vernacular language. However

Visuals
The scene displays the suspect as not having any remorse of what he did. His behaviour in court was inappropriate even if he is innocent but he should have seemed as someone who is grieving over a loved one.

Angles and perspective
The scene does not display any source in the story its only visuals and there is a voicer with a male voice on it.

Intersectionality
In this case, the issues of gender is not balanced. Here we women being brutally killed by their intimate partners. Some of the women are even afraid to leave their abusive relationships in fear of their lives but at the end of the day end up losing their lives.

Conclusion:
The Scene should have had balanced sources and witnesses to take the stand. The coverage of homicide cases should always be in the media. Women lose their lives daily and some live-in fear of what might happen to them.
