Johannesburg, 27 May: The 2014 Regional SADC Gender protocol @ work Summit got off to a vibrant and inspiring start on Monday 26 May, at the Kopanong Conference Centre in Johannesburg. The summit brings together over 350 delegates, gender activists, media, government and faith based organisations from around the Southern African region to make a collaborative push for gender equality in the countdown to 2015.
The summit is hosted by Gender Links and the Southern Africa Protocol Alliance. Delegates from across SADC attended and spoke at the opening ceremony, including Mauritius Minister of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare-Mireille Martin; Lesotho’s Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation-Chief Thesele John Maseribane and South Africa’s Commission for Gender Equality Chair Mfanozelwe Shozi.
