Johannesburg, 27 May: The call for 5050 at the Regional SADC Gender Protocol Summit, underway in Johannesburg, comes at a crucial time since 2015 is just around the corner with a number of elections taking place across the region. South Africa and Malawi have just held elections, but have sadly seen a disappointing decline in the number of women in political decision making. Emma Kaliya, Chair of the NGO Gender Coordination Network in Malawi and Kubi Rama, Gender Links deputy CEO both express their concern about the decrease despite the 5050 campaign high on the political agenda.
