Jean Hugues Gardenne is the Fundraising and Communications Manager working at the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit conservation agency working in Mauritius to save threatened endemic local flora and fauna. The Mauritian Wildlife Appeal Fund was established in 1984 under the initiative of naturalist Gerald Durrell and the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust principally to raise funds for the conservation of endemic Mauritius wildlife. The conservation work in Mauritius began as a species orientated program concentrating on a few critically endangered species, including the Mauritius kestrel and the pink pigeon. The initiation of the conservation program in 1976 was popularized by Gerald Durrell in his book Golden Bats and Pink Pigeons.
Jean Hugues is passionate about what he does. His work is centered towards creating marketing strategies for the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. His work also includes educating others about restoration programmes. He believes in education and raising awareness as core components of the conservation of biodiversity. Jean Hugues also visits schools and other institutions on request, to talk about environmental and conservation issues, participate in exhibitions, give interviews to the media and are collaborating with education authorities in Mauritius to make conservation information and resources available to science teachers.
As an individual, Jean Hugues is passionate, and he is concerned about the use of plastics in Mauritius. Jean Hugues sees every obstacle as a challenge and does not take the defeatist approach.
