I am a lady of 32 years of age from Goodhope at Borolong south of Botswana. I used to be in a relationship, which I did not realize was abusive. I had an opportunity to attend the Gender Links training at Gaborone in 2014. On this training, first it was about the types of abuse and where I could get information. There are a few types of abuses like the physical abuse which is the most common. I learnt that I could report such issues at ‘Emang Basadi’ and or at the Police.
I continued on with my training where we were further taught about business skills. In the business training workshops we were taught how to start a business and identify most important aspects of starting a business such as a good location/land make a business plan and do a market research whether the product you want to sell/service I want to offer in needed in that area. I continued my training into the third step which was aimed at making your business grow. All of these lessons that I have be taught were important as I was able to learn and understand what is needed and where to go if I want to start a business.
My desire is to open a laundry, which I would operate using my own hands for now because I don’t have the machines as yet. But one of the challenges I am going to face is water as we don’t have water in my area. But I will hire people to get water from me and that would be job creation for other people as well. The workshops have opened my mind as I now have knowledge on how the business is operated, I now have a strong desire to start my business and seek for finances. I have learnt that in life I shouldn’t look down upon myself and been lazy. My wish is to see my business having grown massively by the year 2030 and being a woman with responsibility who is able to stand and help those in need of my help.
