
Gender Links, (GL) a dynamic Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg, promoting gender equality and justice, seeks the services of an experienced, skilled, highly motivated and committed Feminist Funding and Networking Manager to head its Grant Making Unit. This currently comprises the Women Voice and Leadership Fund and the Voice and Choice Southern Africa Fund. The post is based in South Africa. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership, strategy and vision
- Lead and inspire a team of grants and compliance officers in GL’s fastest growing vehicle for programme delivery.
- Foster the growth and development of strong women’s rights organisations and networks through linking, learning and programme synergies.
- Be a leading advocate and voice to funding for women’s rights.
Grant management and compliance:
- Oversee the implementation of grant-funded projects, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements.
- Develop and maintain grant-tracking systems to monitor progress and ensure timely submission of reports and deliverables.
- Coordinate with programme and finance teams to gather data and prepare reports for funders.
- Ensure total compliance with Gender Links’ Safeguarding and Zero tolerance for Corruption policy.
Grant research and identification:
- Research and identify potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and corporations.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of potential grant funding sources.
Proposal development:
- Coordinate with programme staff to develop compelling grant proposals that align with the organisation’s mission and objectives.
- Write and edit grant applications, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with funder guidelines.
- Prepare budgets and financial documentation for grant proposals in collaboration with the finance team.
Fundraising and development:
- Collaborate with the development team to create and implement strategies for increasing grant funding.
- Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders.
Monitoring and evaluation:
- Track and analyse grant performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of funded programs.
- Provide recommendations for improving grant management processes and increasing grant success rates.
Communication, partnerships and collaboration:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for grant-related inquiries and communications.
- Conduct training and support for staff involved in grant-funded projects.
- Represent the organisation at meetings, conferences, and events related to grant opportunities and funder relationships.
- Support existing partnerships arrangement, including identifying new opportunities to strengthen the partnerships.
Education:
- Graduate or post graduate degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Mid-career courses taken to enhance performance in the required areas would be an advantage.
Preferred Requirement:
- Knowledge of the specific field or sector in which the organisation operates.
- Experience with donor management systems and databases.
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial management and budgeting.
- Drivers licence
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in grant writing, grant management, or a related field.
- Proven track record of feminist lobbying and advocacy.
- Proven track record of securing and managing grants from government, foundation, and corporate sources.
Skills:
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Strong organisational, team and project management skills.
- A track record of securing funds and in supporting resource mobilisation
- Proficiency in grant management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Work environment:
- Office environment with the potential for occasional travel to meet with funders, attend conferences, and conduct site visits.
- Flexible work arrangements may be available, including remote work options.
- Flexibility to travel.
