Gender Links is hosting a series of in-country workshops to explore the findings of the Gender in Media Education Audit (GIME), which took place from November 2009 – May 2010 in 13 countries and 25 institutions, the Glass Ceilings Study and the Gender in Media Progress Study (GMPS), which is to be launched at the Gender in Media Summit in October.
These workshops will be hosted from August to September, 2010 in 14 SADC countries. These workshops will serve as verification and advocacy on the GIME and GMPS research as well as looking at how media educators and media professionals can join forces to create a more gender equitable media landscape.
It is clear that to make lasting change in equitable gender representation in and through the media, it is not enough to look solely at education, audiences, or media personnel. One needs to look at all aspects of gender in and through the media, and bring together these different spheres to work on sustainable change.
