The study sought to generate baseline data to contribute to the formulation of policy and programmes for the prevention of violence against women and improve government response to pre-violence risk reduction measures and post-violence relief.

The main objectives of the study were to measure and analyse the knowledge, attitudes, perceptions and experiences of people on issues of violence against women and to examine how policies and practices of the judicial and law enforcement, medical and school systems as well as socialisation and culture support or hinder violence against women as well as to analyse factors that influence victim/witness reluctance in bringing actions that result in convictions.
