The articles in this issue clearly provide an impression of the state of the field of non-normative sexualities in Africa. This issue offers an interdisciplinary focus on non-normative sexuality and gender diversities, but there are a few significant gaps. For instance papers focused on activism perspective; non-conforming masculinities and femininities; borders and migration are missing. The fact that South African papers dominate this issue is also concerning. It is hoped that this special issue will begin conversations around these issues, leading to more scholarly and activist work around the continent.
