In 1996, the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) adopted a work programme in order to monitor implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (PFA). Between 1996 and 1999, the CSW considered all 12 critical areas of concern, organizing interactive expert panels to stimulate the exchange of experience, lessons learned and good practices at the national level. In 2000, the Commission focused on preparations for the 23rd Special Session of the UN General Assembly (Beijing +5), which adopted an outcome document calling for further actions to implement the PFA. Subsequent sessions of the CSW developed a work plan for 2002-2006, examined the themes of women’s human rights and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls, and carried out a 10-year review of the PFA. This publication presents the action-oriented agreed conclusions that emerged from the CSW’s sessions
