A manual for speeding up the pace of change. CEDAW is a powerful instrument to accelerate women’s rights and gender equity in political life.

This booklet aims to encourage women’s policy organisations to explore ways to put the Convention and it’s optional protocol to work in political decision making. There is a need to conduct research documenting women’s under-representation in parliament and that it violates article seven of the Convention. CEDAW and the optional protocol could be used to promote the adoption of special measures such as quotas along with electoral policies.

The booklet covers the low numbers of women in government and CEDAW as a tool for change as well as the optional protocol to accelerate progress.
