Commission on the Status on Women: Agreed Conclusions on the Critical Areas of Concern of the Beijing Platform for Action 1996-1999

This publication is an in-depth review and a critical analysis of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the 12 critical areas of concern for priority action to achieve the advancement and empowerment of women. Extensive coverage is presented in the critical areas such as: women and poverty, women in power and decision-making, education and training of women, violence against women, women and health, institutional mechanisms for the advancement of women. Many strategies and solutions have been incorporated into the resolutions and agreed conclusions contained in this book to guide governments and other actors towards further actions and initiatives for the accelerated and full implementation of the Platform for Action. From 1996 through 1999, the Commission on the Status of Women was mandated to monitor the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action.
