Gender equality is not only a goal in its own right, but also an important means for realizing all the other Millennium Development Goals. Just past the halfway mark to 2015, it is clear that we need to do more to empower women. The Gender Equality Strategy 2008-2011 – first launched in March – embodies UNDP’s strong corporate commitment to deepen further our efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. It is designed to complement and reinforce UNDP’s Strategic Plan 2008-2011, by defining in more detail how attention to gender equality and women’s empowerment will strengthen action in all other areas of work. This strategy is an important document to help support countries in achieving their development goals.
