At least 12% of young people aged 15-19 years in Zambia have sexual intercourse before they reach the age of 15. Early sexual debut puts youth at risk of early pregnancy and contracting sexually transmitted diseases. This study sought to undertake an assessment of the current situation of parent-child communication about sexuality issues in Southern and Western Provinces of Zambia in order to understand the current culture that surrounds such communication. The aim is to gather information that will assist the development and adaptation of the Families Matter! Program to help develop a successful intervention.

THIS PROGRAMME WILL ONLY BE ATTAINABLE ONLY IF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS WORKING WITH OVC AND OTHER VULNERABLE CHILDREN ARE BROUGHT ON BOARD.IT CAN BE ACHIEVED BY LOCAL COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER WHO KNOWS AND UNDERSTAND CULTURE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.
The programme requires extensive interaction between both the facilitators and the parents, note that due to escalating poverty level in our community a lot of families have opted to fetch for food than taking time to teach their children good morals and this has resulted having diseases and pregnancies among the schools going children in our communities, hence let the organization with the help of the field facilitators try to sensitise the parents on how to tackle the situation despite the challenges they face in order to help their families live a life of absolutely free from diseases.
