This third issue of the Gender and Media Diversity Journal continues in the tradition of the first two by offering diverse perspectives on the media landscape in Southern Africa, enriched by views from the rest of Africa and other regions of the world. As a project now of the Gender and Media Diversity Centre (GMDC) launched by Gender Links and GEMSA in 2007, the journal aims to stimulate debate on media diversity broadly, and the gender dimensions of this specifically. Against this background, it is fitting that this issue should focus on tabloids and tabloidisation, a subject with great relevance to media diversity, as well as gender and the media. We are pleased at the wide variety of responses to the call for articles. The range of opinions is as varied as its contributors.
