Synopsis

Brief description of the item of work you submitted and motivation of why it is a good example of gender awareness and sensitivity in advancing gender equality Post-2015.

MY WORK IS MAINLY SHOWING THE GENDER DISCRIMINATION DONE TO FEMALE CHILDREN IN NYANZA VILLLAGE. WHERE AS SEVERAL CHILDREN IN THE SAME PERSON WHO IS ABOVE 45 YEARS OLD HAS RAPED THAT VILLAGE. NO MEASURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO THE MAN WHO IS RAPING THE CHILDREN. DESPITE THE SOCIETY BEING AWARE ABOUT THE CONTINUOUS BEHAVIOR OF THIS MAN WHO IS KEEPING RAPING CHILDREN IN THIS VILLAGE.

THE WORK IS IMPORTANT IN GENDER AWARENESS AND MOTIVATION BECAUSE IT RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE INJUSTICE DONE TO THE INNOCENT CHILDREN.IT IS IMPORTANT IN GENDER AWARENESS AND SENSITIVITY BECAUSE IT SHOWS ON HOW FEMALE CHILDREN HAVE BEEN UNDERMINED SILENTLY.

Background

Why did you produce the story? What problem or context is it responding to?

THE STORY IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE SOCIETY IS FED UP WITH THIS BEHAVIOR OF CHILDREN BEING RAPED CONTINUOUSLY IN NYANZA VILLAGE. I DECIDED TO PRODUCE THE STORY IN ORDER TO REVEAL THE EVILS DONE IN THE SOCIETY AND WANT THE RESPONSIBLE AUTHORITY TO TAKE ACTION TO THE VICTIM AND MAN WHO IS RAPING THE CHILDREN.

THE DOCUMENTARY RESPONDS TO CRY OF THE NYANZA COMMUNITY WHO ARE TIRED OF THE BEHAVIOR OF MASTER, WHO IS CONTINUOUSLY RAPING CHILDREN IN THIS VILLAGE BUT NO ACTION TAKEN UPON HIM. HE IS STILL IN THE SOCIETY THOUGH IN SOME OF THE CHILDREN HE RAPED HE PAID COMPENSATION.

THE MAIN CHARACTER IN MY STORY IS A 10 YEARS GIRL, WHO WAS KIDNAPPED BY THE SAME PERSON WHO RAPES CHILDREN IN THIS VILLAGE. THE CHILD STAYED IN HIS HOUSE FOR SIX WEEKS WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF HER FAMILY AND BEING RAPED DURING HER STAY IN THAT HOUSE. MY DOCUMENTARY RESPONDS TO THE CRY OF PARENTS AND CHILDREN WHO SUFFER INNOCENTLY.

Key objectives

What did you hope to achieve with this coverage?

I HOPE THAT THIS DOCUMENTARY SHOWS THE WIDE PERSPECTIVE OF THIS PROBLEM IN NYANZA COMMUNITY.SINCE IT REVEALS THE EVILS DONE IN SOCIETY. THE SOCIETY IS AWARE ABOUT THE SEVERAL RAPING ACTIONS COMMITTED BY THE SAME PERSON IN THE SAME SOCIETY.

I HOPE THAT BY COVERING THIS STORY, THE MAN WHO IS RAPING THE CHILDREN SHOULD STOP DOING SO BECAUSE IS INHUMAN. ALSO THE RESPECTIVE AUTHORITY SHOULD TAKE ACTION BECAUSE THE BEHAVIOR OF

RAPING CHILDREN HAS BECAME THE PATTERN IN PEOPLE’S LIFE IN NYANZA VILLAGE. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE REACTION TOWARDS THESE BEHAVIORS, WHICH ARE DANGEROUS IN CHILDREN’S HEALTH.

Target audience

Who did you hope to reach? Did you succeed in reaching this audience? What evidence do you have to that effect?

THE AUTHORITY ARE THE MAIN TARGETED AUDIENCE OF THIS DOCUMENTARY.THAT HAVING BEEN AWARE ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN NYANZA VILLAGE, PARTICULARLY TO THE CHILDREN WHO ARE THE FUTURE GENERATION SHOULD TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE VICTIM AND DEALS WITH THE PERSON WHO IS RAPING THE CHILDREN EVERY THEN AND THERE.

IN ADDITION, PARENTS SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHILE SENDING CHILDREN FOR SHOPPING ESPECIALLY IN LATE EVENING. WHERE POSSIBLE SEND THEM EARLY ENOUGH SO THAT THEY MAY NOT BE ATTACKED ON THE WAY. YES.I WAS SUCCESSFUL IN REACHING THE AUDIENCE SINCE THE RESPONSIBLE NGOS HAVE SENT SOME MEMBERS TO INVESTIGATE ON THIS CRIME AGAINST CHILDREN.

IN ADDITION, PARENTS HAVE BEEN MORE SERIOUS AND SENSITIVE NOT TO SEND CHILDREN TO BUY SOMETHING LATE EVENING ALONE.

How did you go about producing the programme?

How did you gather the data, how many sources, female and male did you consult? Why did you choose these sources and how were their voices important?

FIRST, I WROTE THE PROGRAM PLAN AND SCRIPT. THEN I VISITED THE NEIGHBORING FAMILIES TO GET THEIR VIEW ON HOW THE KNOW THE MAKE CLAIMED TO RAPE CHILDREN IN NYANZA VILLAGE.

I HAD SEVEN SOURCES, THREE (3) MEN, THREE WOMEN AND THE MAIN CHARACTER WHO IS 10 YEARS OLD WHO WAS RAPED FOR 6 WEEKS. I DECIDED TO USE THESE SOURCES DUE TO THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANCE OF THEIR VOICES

First man is the one who is working with an NG’O fighting against gender discrimination in the society. His voice is important in the documentary because he explains about his understanding of the problem in the society and the steps taken.

Second man is the village chair Person- his voice is important because he explain about his awareness about the last case of 10 years girl staying in the house of this man who rapes children in the village. That he is aware and warned the man not stay with children who are not his own.

Third man is one who rapes children in Nyanza village. His voice is important because clarifies on the different techniques and “medications” that he pretends to treat them and his experience in this.

Then, First women is the mother whose daughter was kidnapped and raped for six weeks. Her voice is important because gives the overview on what happens on the day the child disappeared from the family. And the duration the child stayed away from the family and the witness given by her only daughter that she was raped several times while away from the family.

Second woman is the co- worker of the man who worked with this man who keeps raping children in Nyanza village. Her voice is important because it gives us the wide understanding of this man who rapes children and how long he has; being doing this Third woman is the neighbour of this man who really disappointed of this behaviour. Her voice is important because she explains the reality that the raping behaviour of this man did not begin with the last case i.e. 10yrs girl but started long ago with house girl and secondary school girls.

Also, the girl who is only 10 years old. She is the victim of rape. Who has been kidnapped and raped for six weeks. Her voice is important because tells the truth about what happened to her during the six weeks away from the family being kidnapped.

Feedback

What impact did it have? What evidence do you have to illustrate impact?

THE AUDIENCES OF DOCUMENTARY PROGRAM THROUGH RADIO SAUT FM RESPONDED BY SENDING MESSAGES TO THE STUDIO AND CALLING TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND ON HOW CHILDREN HAVE SUFFERED IN NYANZA SOCIETY. IN ADDITION, AN NG’O IS MAKING A FOLLOW UP ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN NYANZA SOCIETY.

Follow up

How would you conduct a follow up to your story and why?

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A FOLLOW UP ON WHETHER THE BEHAVIOR OF RAPING CHILDREN IN NYANZA HAS ENDED OR NOT. ALSO, FIND OUT WHETHER THIS MAN WHO PRETENDS TO ASSIST YOUNG GIRLS WITH LOCAL MEDICATION IS STILL DOING SO AND MEASURES TAKEN AGAINST HIM.
