Discourse on the freeness and fairness of elections has in th recent past taken on a new dimension – that of examining the extent to which rhe electoral process enables the fullest participation of all eligable participants. with specific reagrd to Kenya, anecdotal evidence suggests that the playing field may not be level for men and women to participate full in the electoral process, whether as candidates or as voters. This may account for the generally low levels of women’s represantation in elective public offices in Kenya.
