Handbook on National and Provincial Machinery for Advancing Gender Equality

This manual was originally prepared for a workshop on Provincial Machinery for Advancing Gender Equality held on 12 April,1996, convened by the Department of Welfare and Population Development Programme (UNDP). The findings of the workshop are included in this updated document which is intended as a tool for further workshops in the provinces designed to assist in the actual establishment of the machinery.

the manual was prepared by the Centre for Applied Legal Studies (University of the Witwatersrand) and the Commonwealth Secretariat ( as part of its technical assistance programme to South Africa) at the request of the Minister of Welfare and Population Development. The Commonwealth Secretariat sponspored publication of the manual.
