As the rate of people infected with HIV/AIDS increases in Southern Africa, national health programmes are being increasingly strained. In the absence of adequate state funding for hospitals and medical professionals, governments have looked to home – based care as a way of providing care for the large number of people suffering from HIV/AIDS while at the same time reducing some of the financial and other pressures currently facing national health systems. The report, divided into seven sections explores different aspects of the situation of HBC in Southern Africa today.
