Mapping Progress: Assessing implementation of the Beijing Platform 1998

This report on progress on the Beijing Platform of Action finds three broad trends influencing the incremental progress towards women’s equality.

Firstly, the majority of governments are turning words into action. 70% have drawn up national plans, drafts and blueprints for action.

The impact of economic globalization and restructuring programmes on women’s lies are taking their toll. Women, as workers and mothers and producers bear a disproportionate burden of the costs of transition.

Thirdly, the realisation of the Beijing Platform of Action is taking lace in most countries with the active involvement of NGOs and women activists.
