The MSA for Africa is the introductory study of 37 sub-Saharan countries. The MSI uses IREX ‘s methodology that was developed in2001, first applied to Europe and Eurasia, and then used in the Middle East and North Africa in 2005. Baseline scores have been obtained and in depth qualitative studies from a local perspective prepared to explain the numbers. The methodology used in Africa is the same as that used in the past, allowing for comparison. To ensure that unique features of African media were highlighted, we slightly revised our questionnaire and moderator instruction manual to remind panelists to consider, for example, community radio in their evaluation.
