Mirror on the media: Monitoring the media on gender violence

Media Watch Organisation is a dynamic Mauritian NGO of researchers, triners, media practitioners, gender activists, art and communication students. It is the local chapter of Gender and Media Southern Africa (GEMSA) and works in close collaboration with Gender Links (GL) of South Africa. MWO-GEMSA has a strog focus on gender in and through the media and emphasis on research, training, sensitisation and awareness campaigns on gender violence, gender discrimation and a gender and HIV and AIDS. MWO-GEMSA plays a facilitative and coordinating role as well as initiating new ideas which are appropriate to the development of a just society where gender justice will prevail. The organisation works in collaboration with all stakeholders, including the UNDP, schools, parents associations, community based organisations, the media, local government, religious leaders and the private sector to develop and monitor effective campaigns.
