The Seychelles’ National Gender Policy is available. There are no overtly discriminatory laws in the Republic of the Seychelles. The gap therefore lies in the enforcement and implementation of the law. Legislation drafting and domestication of treaties and protocols ratified by the Seychelles should mainstream gender.
The gender mainstreaming approaches of SADC, the Commonwealth Secretariat and the United Nations guide the document. It also examines the background and justification for the policy. It is principally aligned to the key provisions of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development.
Policy programme areas include constitutional rights, productive resources, climate change as well as food and nutrition security. Other topics include gender based violence, HIV and AIDS and gender and the media. A glossary explains the terms.
Finally, the document also covers key issues and challenges.
