Article 21 of the Ugandan Constitution sets out an internationally recognised right to equality by which all persons are “equal before the law in all spheres of economic, social and cultural lifeÀ and freedom from discrimination by which a “person shall not be discriminated against on the grounds of sex, race, colour, ethnic origin, tribe, birth, creed or religion, or social or economic standing political opinion or disability.
Despite this there remains a sharp contrast between the socio economic status of men and women. ACFODE sees the need to bring the laws closer to the stakeholders. This policy brief is a result of a desk review of relevant documents from various stakeholders including the Ministry of Gender and the Equal Opportunities Commission. It offers and analysis of the EOC policy and the gaps therein.
