Can masculinity be redemptive? Or does masculinity itself need redemption? The eminent scholars writing in this volume assert that it is both. They argue that true masculinity has become shackled by the neo-colonial bonds of patriarchy. In its own oppression masculinity has become oppressive. It needs redemption from these bonds to re-actualise its potential. This work seeks to critique and re-examine some of the masculinity-related stereotypes against the backdrop of the HIV challenge. Ecumenical HIV and AIDS Initiative in Africa (EHAIA) is a programme of the World Council of Churches. This is part of the EHAIA series.
