This strategy advances the quest for a prosperous and peaceful Africa in which women, men, girls and boys are all able to live with human dignity.

Gender equality, women’s participation in peace and security processes, the prevention of sexual and gender based violence and the protection of women in conflict and post-conflict situations are essential to meet the objectives of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, as well as the AU Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Women and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Strategy is an overall guide to SADC to mainstream gender into SADC’s peace and security mechanisms and processes to address the specific challenges faced by women and children.
