Reflecting and re-strategising for gender based regional integration: the SADC plan of action for gender was reviewed in 2005 to capture concerns such as the upliftment of the poorest of the poor, rural women and the girl child. SADC also faces increasing poverty and increasing gender based violence and challenges such as HIV. Member states and development partners contributed to the development of a strategic implementation framework.
