Zimbabwe’s 2012 Constitution-making process has provided an avenue for women to ensure that women’s rights and gender equality become substantive issues in the country’s Supreme Law.
Zimbabwe signed the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development and was among the first countries to ratify the instrument in 2009. The 2012 Zimbabwe country report reflects on progress towards the achievement of the 28 targets and the provisions of the Southern African Gender and Development Protocol. It marks many of the country’s achievements, but also
highlights gaps and areas where there has been a pushback in the socio-economic rights of women and girls due to increasing poverty and dwindling resources.
