This report summarises various research studies on the impact of criminalisation of same-sex sexual acts on the lives of LGBT persons. It draws on the perspectives of LGBT persons to illustrate the impact of criminal laws. Decriminalising consensual adult same-sex sex is a human rights imperative, consistent with Botswana’s international human rights commitments. It is necessary to respect and protect the rights of LGBT persons in Botswana.
The report examines the human rights violations and discrimination experienced by LGBT persons in Botswana. It aims to provide the government and civil society with an overview of the impact of criminalisation of same-sex sexual acts in Botswana.
