The South African Press Code, Procedures and Constitution 2014

The Press Council and the press have adopted the South African Press Code which is contained in this booklet. Almost all South African publications subscribe to the Code. The Council is the custodian of this code and may amend it from time to time. The industry believes in independent co-regulation involving representatives of the press and the public because it is the only way freedom of expression and freedom of the press guaranteed in the Constitution can be truly exercised. Statutory regulation would threaten the independence of the press and freedom of expression.

The booklet also contains complaints procedures and the constitution of the Press Council as of 20 May 2014.
