The African Women’s Leadership Institute is a regional networking, information and training forum, which trains women aged 25-45 in critical thinking on gender issues, operational and resource development and strategic planning. It was set up by Akina Mama wa Afrika post Beijing. The Institute aims to develop the leadership of young African women and so the Training of Trainers programme was established. The Eastern Africa Sub-regional TOT was conducted in Mombasa in February 2004. Particpants included both alumni and women leaders working with government machinery and women NGOs.
