The East African Community countries are on course in implementing the regional economic integration that encompasses a Customs Union; Common Market; Monetary Union and Political federation. The integration is supposed to be for the benefit of the people of the region who should be the critical actors. Women, especially the informal cross border traders, have been at the forefront of cross border trade both as a source of income and employment. However, the EAC integration process has paid scant attention to gender and development. There is still a need to have empirical data and facts on women’s engagement in regional cross border trade. This study was conducted in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
