This book was written to empower women who are victims of domestic violence to use the Act and other legal options to protect themselves. Information about the law and legal rights is one of the first steps in empowering survivors of domestic violence. The information in this booklet is intended to assist the survivors to make the choices that will stop the violence.
It provides guidance as to how to obtain protection orders and what to do if the abuser ignores the protection order. It explains how a criminal trial works as well as divorce and maintenance and how to get a lawyer to assist.
