Alerts and Complaints: Kudos to the State Bank of mauritius Recruitment Campaign

The Alerts and Complaints project aims to create awareness
on gender issues, more precisely on insensitive media
coverage, amongst the members of the public. This case
study is about an advert that appeared on billboards, in
newspapers and on websites during the month of June and
July 2008 for the State Bank of Mauritius (SBM). It is a very
positive, gender aware recruitment campaign showing both
men and women on equal grounds at their work place.
Considering it is important to focus not only on the negative
adverts, Media Watch Organisation (MWO)/ Gender and
Media Southern Africa (GEMSA) in Mauritius singled out
this campaign as a good example of gender balance in media.
It is important to encourage such adverts and to recognise
publicly that advertisers have done well so that other media
houses are at least aware of the good path and could try to
follow it.
