Diversity has become the name of the game in Botswana’s print media. Newspapers have changed in design, employing big colourful headlines and photographs and significantly, many have begun to mainstream gender into their content. From my personal perspective, more newspapers are shifting from the narrow focus on politics, to giving more voice to the concerns of the ordinary citizens. This is a major victory for women whose voices have finally begun to be heard in media. I am particularly proud that The Voice, the weekly newspaper where I am the publisher, has played an integral role in the changing media landscape in Botswana. The Voice newspaper was established in February 1993 in Francistown, Botswana’s second city. It was the first paper to be established in the north and also the first newspaper to find a niche in human interest stories.
