The study aims at exploring repersentations of particular regions within the foreign news sub-genre. It explores representations of Africa and African countries in the Japan Times/Online. The thesis intends to reveal hidden ideological assumptions within reporting of this type and argues that the reporting functions to entrench discrimination against and sterotypes concerning Africa.
