This article explores how the South African tabloid the Daily Sun
represents HIV and AIDS. It argues that while overt coverage of
the epidemic is minimal, issues relating to HIV and AIDS appear
on almost every page of the newspaper. This suggests a need for
sustained and critical engagement with issues about HIV and AIDS
in the media. The article provides a critique of some the modes
of representation that characterise the articles in the Daily Sun,
focusing on the portrayal of rape in particular.
