As the dates for the FIFA World Cup 2010 tournament draw near, economic activities in South Africa are naturally heightening, while others related to the preparation phase are winding up. Some of the most evident activities are construction and transport work, with thousands of people part of the massive workforce required to get the needed infrastructure in place. Yet, the gender balance of who benefits is a question that remains unanswered.
Part of the reason why this issue is largely missing from the public agenda is that media is missing out on a gender perspective in reporting on World Cup 2010.
