Sonke Gender Justice Network has been actively involved in efforts to stem the xenophobic violence and the aftermath of attacks that occurred in May 2008 in South Africa. This has included engaging with communities to strengthen the ability of refugees and immigrants to be able to access their rights – including their right to safety, dignity and health. As part of this, Sonke is using street soccer to facilitate reintegration of people affected by xenophobic violence into their communities.
