A recent increase in the numbers of gay people represented in popular culture has seen a breaking down of barriers between the heterosexual and homosexual communities. It has also seen a shift in gender roles in relationships between straight men, and between straight men and gay men. This article looks at how this shift has affected popular vernacular with the creation of words such as bromance and hobromance. It also looks at those who have been left behind.
