The thesis explores print media representations of the drug Nevirapine and the Acquired Immune Deficiency (AIDS) virus in South African media. the thesis argues that AIDS is not objectively represented through biomedical terms, but rather that social practices and forms influence how the disease is received in the public domain. Here journalistic decsions about what and how the virus is portrayed are described as “mirrors” that reflect knowledge to the public at large.
