The thesis explores the ethics of two South African newspapers coverage of the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuses. The accuracy of reporting at a geographical distance of war-time events is a particularly sensitive issue, especially considering that the media is often the publics only source of information on the matter. An analysis of the manner the Cape Times and the Mail and Guardian is conducted in order to reveal the degree to which the South African print media adheres to relevant codes of conduct and ethical policies.
