Torchbearers of a transforming society? Black women in soap operas in post-apartheid South Africa

This article explores the representation of black women in two
South African soap operas: Generations and Isidingo in the context
of post-apartheid South Africa. It argues that while there are many
more black women represented on South African television than
prior to 1994, it is essential that these images be viewed with
caution.
