Higher education can play a critical role in helping to transform and define societies in Africa. As the Association for African Universities notes in its module on how gender can be used to transform curriculum: “Higher education is one of the most important institutions responsible for re-thinking and re-defining reality. As such, it is key to change.À The findings of the recent Audit of Gender in Media Education (GIME) and Journalism Training illustrates how media education and journalism training at tertiary institutions is an important component in changing the sexism and other forms of inequalities that permeate newsrooms and media content.
